· Microsoft Windows Vista x86 (all editions)
· Microsoft Windows Server 2008 x86 (all editions)
· Microsoft Windows 7 x86
The setup requires local administrative access rights.
The driver for the ActivIdentity serial smart card reader (SmartReader) is not signed by Microsoft. This may cause a warning to appear when you install the driver and when you connect the device on operating systems other than Windows XP. Ignore this warning.
All CCID drivers (ActivKey SIM, ActivKey Display, USB reader V2/V3) are already integrated into the Windows Vista Operating System. In that case, AIDI does not install drivers in this platform.
The ActivIdentity serial reader (SmartReader) and PCMCIA reader V1 are not supported on Windows Vista.
This section describes issues known by ActivIdentity as of the release date, but which have not been addressed in the current product version. When possible, fixes and workarounds are suggested. This section also describes known limitations of this release.
Before you install/uninstall/upgrade ActivIdentity Device Installer, you must remove your smart card from the smart card reader.
Windows local administrative privileges or domain administrative privileges are required to install/uninstall ActivIdentity Device Installer.
Do not install another application while using the ActivIdentity Device Installer setup.
ActivIdentity Device Installer upgrades the following products:
ActivIdentity Device Installer 1.0:
When upgrading from previous version of ActivIdentity Device Installer 1.0, ActivIdentity Device Installer 2.2 upgrades drivers if a more recent version is available.
ActivIdentity Gold, version 2.2 and 2.3.1 (with any service pack):
When you upgrade ActivIdentity Gold reader drivers with ActivIdentity Device Installer 2.2, it removes drivers component of the ActivIdentity Gold product, and updates the reader drivers with the ones installed with ActivIdentity Device Installer.
ActivClient 5.0 to 5.4:
When you upgrade ActivClient reader drivers with ActivIdentity Device Installer 2.2, it removes drivers component of the ActivClient product, and updates the reader drivers with the ones installed with ActivIdentity Device Installer.
ActivClient 6.0:
When upgrading from ActivClient 6.0, ActivIdentity Device Installer updates drivers if a more recent version is available.
If Microsoft Script Debugger is installed on your workstation, a Microsoft Script Debugger error message may appear during the ActivIdentity Device Installer setup. Ignore this error message.
According to Microsoft Article ID Q258558: On Windows 2000, the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet sometimes displays a Windows Explorer folder icon for your application instead of the ActivIdentity Device Installer icon.
Running the setup from a .zip file is not supported. First unzip the installation files into a temporary folder and then launch the installation from that folder.
In some cases, when you copy the ActivIdentity Device Installer installation files to a disk with a FAT32 file system, you may see a “Confirm Stream Loss” error message. When asked if you want to proceed, click Yes and continue the installation.
Due to a Microsoft Windows Installer limitation, when adding a feature during the modify process; you may be prompted for the source media (that is, the CD-ROM, local or remote directory).
During installation of the Serial SmartReader product, it may be possible to have problems if you select both COM1 and COM2. This configuration is not supported so please insure that only one selection is done at a time.
If the Serial Smart Reader product is already installed in the workstation, this product needs to be uninstalled before ActivIdentity Device Installer 2.1 install.
Blind installation of the drivers is not supported when previous version of the driver is installed. You must remove first the smart card reader component from the ActivIdentity Gold or ActivClient 5.0 to 5.4 packages.
Before you uninstall ActivIdentity Device Installer, remove the card from the smart card reader or unplug the USB token devices and close all open ActivClient components (for example, ActivClient User Console).
To uninstall the product, use the Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. Do NOT delete DLLs or files manually. ActivIdentity Device Installer uses shared libraries. Deleting libraries may lead to subsequent problems when a new version is installed.
A very small number of registry keys (including user registry keys) may be left behind after you uninstall the software. This has no adverse effect on the behavior of the workstation or on a future re-installation process.
